buah tangan ke KL

some people bring fruits, some bring kerepek, some bring freshly cooked dishes from home and some , like this lady, chose to bring sweet , cheesy and creamy dessert for ' buah tangan' to her loved ones. It is always a norm not to visit friends and relatives empty handed
and so this lady decided to bring not just one box of blueberry cheesetarts for her mum and children,
but also another box of blueberry cheesecake, must be a hard core cheese and blueberry fan! Thank you dear sis for your continuous support.

Read your labels, please.....

blueberry cheesecake- thank you Kak Tengku

blueberry cheesetarts- Thank you Ana..............
sedap sangat!
I don't know how many blueberry cheesetarts I have made since I started doing this and I have no problem with the dough until a few days ago. the recipe wasn't exactly at the back of my head because I still had to refer to recipe every time I am making them and that day was no exception.
the butter weighed, and into the mixer it went, followed by the flour, the egg, and the rest of the ingredient and every time I did that I got the perfect dough.......every time. However, on that day, I was baffled when my dough just wouldn't harden. it's very rainy, very slippery and very sticky.... $?7%$#(*^? ........ hello! what's going on here?
Is the egg too big? cos I was using the one size bigger egg than usual,
could that be the reason??
or perhaps, I left the butter at room temperature and it had gone soft a little bit?
What? What was the problem?
One mixture......gone! I could not use it because it did not turn into the dough that I wanted, i couldn't make the tart shell with it!
took another half block of butter from the fridge and this time I made sure that it came straight from the fridge and not left at room temperature.
weighed the flour again, the icing sugar ,again and turn the mixer on and I got the same result! the same disappointing result! still no dough for my blueberry cheese tarts' shells!

OMG! Not again! I modified a little, decided to add a little more flour into the mixture , about almost a cup more ( I wonder if it would still taste the same ) and yet I still could not get 'the' dough.

Twice! but I could not give up cos my customer was coming over in the evening for the BCT . I repeated the process, took half a block of butter from the fridge and started measuring all the other ingredients , just when I was about to take the flour, I noticed something else, there were two packets of flour , one with 'rose flour' written on the label and the other 'sponge mix flour'. and it hit me! I had been using the sponge mix flour and no wonder Stevie Wonder that I could not get the right dough! Silly me! that should teach me a lesson to read the labels every time
and true enough I got my beautiful dough with the third mix.Phew!
so, the moral of the story is.......Read your labels !!!!

blueberry cheesetarts as " buah tangan'

it is a nice gesture to bring ' buah tangan' when you go visiting, it could be anything, from fruits to cakes, to choclate and in this case, blueberry cheesetarts , carefully placed in a box , finished with a simple flowery red ribbon and the ever so soft and sweet pink rose just goes to show how special the host is. ,
it would just warm the heart of the recipient upon receiving this cute, yet tasty and yummilicious blueberry cheesetarts

this is another way of packaging brownies and blueberry cheesetarts as 'buah tangan'. nothing fancy, nothing grand but it is enough to bring a smile to the person receiving it.
Thank you kak Ba'ayah and Areena. the blueberry cheesetart in the pink rose and red ribbon box is for a friend who's hosting the open house.

blueberry cheesetart for areena and Kak Bahiyah.Thank you for always supporting me.

my two dishes for break fasting on wednesday. Ayam masak kerutuk

and Ketam Masak cili. both are my son's favourite dishes.
Ayam masak kerutuk was quite easy to make, I just followed the recipe at the back of the pack. Kerutuk is the traditional dish from Kelantan. Here's how to make it ( even a first timer can do this i think , if you follow the instructions at the back of the pack..... I did:-)
ayam masak kerutuk
I used 8 small pieces of chicken ( from the thigh and drumsticks portion)
clean them first.
heat about a tablespoon of cooking oil,
and fry crushed shallots (10) garlic (5) and lemon grass until fragrant
Tumis these blended ingredients which had been mixed with the kerutuk paste:
garlic
ginger
galangal
tumis for about 10 minutes or until peach minyak
Add in the chicken and mix thoroughly until all the chicken were well coated.
add in about 1 1/2 cup of coconut milk
1 tsp air asam jawa
2 tbsp kerisik
1 cup of water
salt and sugar to taste
let it boil, then lower the heat, simmer till the chicken is tender and the gravy became thick.
Serve with hot white rice

blueberry cheesetarts

When I first started making these blueberry cheesetarts, I didn't even know what they tasted like and i didn't know whether my methods were correct or not, all I knew was that they looked good and the comments from the readers in this person's fotopage were very positive and encouraging and so I thought I'd give it a try

Alhamdulillah, they turned out fine, looked not so good ( it made me wonder whether was my oven temperature correct, did I mix the dough as it should be and whether the filling was beaten adequately or was it overmixed, ) but all that didn't matter because they tasted as I think what blueberry cheesetarts would taste like, with the crumbly tart shell and creamy fillings and the sourness of the blueberries fillings, what a perfect combination. One bite was never enough. The comments and feedbacks that I received from my friends were positive. they all liked it. Orders started coming, for those who had tasted it, would make repeat orders and so the story goes.

This order was from the same lady who ordered plain bake cheesecake just the week before. Thank you Aisha and Mizi, hope you and the kids like these blueberry cheesetarts.

I had a few extras from this set and another lady who wanted me to keep her informed if there were any extras from my order because she and her daughter both loves cakes and so she took some. This was the sms that I received from her:
"Sedap la kak zu blueberry tart tu "

Thank you Nana for the 'berry' sweet compliment.
Nana ordered my choc chip cookies just last week and she also ordered another jar of the chocolate chip cookies because her hubby likes it so much.

Someone said to me, " I am sure you are very happy knowing that people like what you did, they appreciate what you are doing".

Yes, she couldn't be more right, I am happy , glad, pleased, knowing that someone out there is enjoying my chocolate chip cookies ( one bite after another, hands reaching into the jar while still biting on the first one ) while watching TV or watching the FIFA world Cup, or they are indulging in my creamy oreo chocolate cheesecake with their family and friends, or they may be blowing birthday candles on my chocolate cake or brownies, or they may be admiring and praising my teddy bear, dinasour, or birds cupcakes with flowers, birds and bees, or cutting into the two or three tiered wedding cakes, or putting or arranging the nicely decorated cakes and cupcakes on the ' hantaran' trays , all these just give me the greatest satisfaction. this feeling is far greater than getting a thank you for a report done and presented in a management meeting.

I guess , this is ( part of ) what makes me happy, and thank you, thank you again for those who have made me very happy for I can never thank them enough.Merci beaucoup.

last minute orders...naughty, naughty....gals...

Who is this cute tiny chocolate cake covered with chocolate fondant and decorated with pink and purpple blossoms for?

Blueberry cheesetart for the newly wed , Nas who had just returned from her honeymoon a couple of days ago and already she is craving for this BCT. Could this be a sign of tiny feet coming very soon?
Nas order came at around 11 am yesterday when I was about to leave Gi*nt after having bought the strawberries for today's cheesecake, and she wanted them by 3 pm.... on the same day! She's doing it again! notty notty Nas! thanks Nas for thinking of me whenever you feel like having some cakes or BCTs.
Well, if I think that Nas's order for the BCT was 'last minute', then I should think again because nothing or no one could beat this birthday cake last minute order.
just after Nas left around 5 pm ( cos I told her that I couldn't get them ready by 3 pm, for I was going to cook lunch for the kid, ketam masak cili and ayam masak lemak cili api, so I told her to come around 5 instead), I went upstairs to up date my overdue entries when suddenly my Nokia phone rang and a familiar name popped up.

"Kak Zue, ada kek tak?"kek apa boleh siap dalam masa sejam?"
kek yang dah siap and just needed to be decorated could be done in one hour., and fotunately for her I did have one vsnila cake available, just her luck!
To cut the story short, alhamdulillah I managed to deco this vanila cake within an hour, cut the cake into two and sandwiched blueberries in between the cakes and glazed with white buttercream. How and what to deco for a three year old girl with very limited time frame?Kids love colours , don't they, so I was thinking of putting smarties or m&m all around the sides but I was out of smarties. okay, take a deep breath and think....
think, think, think, this is the job for super sleuth....
well, just took the colourful sprinkles and scatter them all around the sides. cut a few pink and purple blossoms for the border and piped out the wordings with the readily available buttercream. By 6.45 pm I smsed to linda telling her " dah siap".

she also took the xtra BCT that I had left and I just made that cute tiny chocolate cupcake with chocolate fondant for baby nuha.

Happy 3rd birthday Nuha, may you always be a bundle of joy to your mum and dad and to Linda, you have a good rest and hope you are feeling better very soon. Take care, kay..

one for me and one for MIL

one set of these blueberry cheesetart for me and the other set for my MIL...a thotful daughter in law.

I finally got to meet her in person, the person who sent her heart in the black and white box early this month for her hubby's surprise birthday cupcakes.

She's Hani, as sweet as honey..she has a three month old baby and I'm sure the baby is as cute as both the parents are. Hani and Acubik, a beautiful couple.

When she told me that she left her three month old baby here in Alor Star with her mum, i told her my story with my first baby.It was the year 1995, I got this job which requires me to do the training in Bukit Mertajam for three months before they opened up the branch in Alor Star and so off I went to Bukit Mertajam, leaving my hubby in Alor Star and our daughter under his mother's care. came back once a week and it was a really beautiful moment everytime I came to take her for the weekend from my mother in law.
But when my daughter was to turn six months old, I travelled daily from Alor Star to Bukit Mertajam. Why? Because they said that when a baby is six months old, she would begin to recognise her mother and if I didn't see her everyday, she might not recognise me and I didn't want that to happen so that was the sacrifice I had to make. Waking up very early in the morning to take the 7 o'clock bus cos the journey took me about one hour and I was the first, well ,maybe one of the first to punch out to catch the earliest bus back to Alor Star to see my babies, small baby and BIG baby....

I was just sharing my experience with Hani. Now my little baby is all grown to be a big and tall ( much bigger and taller than her Mama), fourteen year old girl.

So nice meeting you Hani , hope you will enjoy the blueberry cheesetart with your family and hope you will have a beautiful moment with your hubby and baby this weekend.
