this vanila cake was for her nephew's 10th birthday, although she's not here to celebrate it with him and the whole family for she's far away in chennai, India ( just like the celebration for the other newphew ) but she took the trouble to order this cake and requested me to deliver it on her behalf.

thank you again Aslamah for your trust in me to make the cake for your family members, hopefully we can meet up the next time you come back for your holiday.

simple, sweet and beautiful

I first knew her when she ordered mothers' day chocolate cake to be delivered to her mum in Alor Star. 'Knew' via phone, later, through her interesting blog and through her profile I discovered that we have a lot in common, same age, same taste in singer, Bryan Adam, enjoys reading too and we spoke, we got along fine, perhaps it was the age factor.
After more than a year and occasional exchanges of smses, a few cake orders, well, one actually, not many because she's in KL but she did order oreo chocolate cheesecake for their family gathering in Bukit Merah a couple of months back and the latest she ordered marble cheese brownies for Aidil fitri where I finally got to meet this lady in person.she is as nice in person as she is in her blog and on the phone. She has a special request

for me to bake her daughter Hanna , her 13th birthday cake to celebrate with the family in Alor Star before leaving back to KL on the fifth day of raya.I wasn't sure if I could do it or not because I myself would be going back to my hometown for raya but as fate has written that I would be back by the third raya so I was able to make it for her. She chose vanila cake with blueberries filling sandwiched in between

she may be 13, but , no Hannah Montana and no teddies or girly girly stuff either, and I do hope that this cake was what she wanted, simple, sweet and beautiful., not too childish but not too matured either.
the verdict from her mum via sms:
"cantik n sedap sngt. Semua suka! Hanna upload pix @ fb dia. Mmg lawa kek tu. Tq zue!"
tiada kata secantik bahasa dan tiada bahasa seindah kata-kata ini.........
they sound like music to my ear.
Thank you Ja for trusting me with your daughter's birthday cake and Happy 13th birthday Hanna.

Eleven ladybirds, flowers, bees, mushrooms, and birds in a garden

I like that "Blue teddy in the garden" Could you make the grass on the cake but not on the whole cake, maybe leave the centre for wordings"
Can
and perhaps some grass at the sides, and I'd like the flowers, ladybirds, etc on it.
Also can..
Can I put our photos on the cake?
Can.... but you have to send it to me ASAP so that I can get it printed.
" What would you suggest for a boy and two girls birthdays in one bday cake"
hmmmmmmmm.....
how about three teddies, one blue and two pink?
Do you think you can make more teddies since the two girls have a twin sister, plus the cousins, me, him, her, etc.etc.....about eleven teddies.
okay, should be no problem for eleven teddies but more teddies more $.....hehe..... more time spent ma.....
but my budget is $......okay, we forget the teddies, never mind, just the flowers and ladybirds, etc

Which cake is nice?
all nice......
which is the nicest?
if you ask me I would say, oreo chocolate cheesecake, but then again, so is plain bake cheesecake, and chocolate cake, and marble cheese brownies, carrot walnut cake, etc etc.....all nice ma.......they all have different taste and different personality,

oreo chocolate cheesecake, soft and creamy yet not too cheesy, with the taste of chocolate cream and oreo crumbs and vanila sponge in between , one bite is never enough. Beware! Eat at your own risk, for once bitten, you will be frorever smitten......:-)

plain bake cheesecake: cheesy but but not too overwhelming and with the marie biscuit as the base, such a good combination that you would be asking for more after one bite.....

marble cheese brownies: it speaks for itself, from the repeat orders and the overwhelming response by my friends and dear customers, existing and new, the chocolatey brownies base and the cream cheese topping with its marbly and sometimes floral or abstract design on top make it a popular choice.

chocolate cake ( especially with chocolate ganache) : an all time favourite, wouldn't go wrong with anybody or any occasion ( except for non chocolate lovers, I guess ). The rich chocolatey taste wih the creamy chocolatey shiny ganache seems to melt in your mouth and leaving you wondering which cloud you are on , could be Cloud 9!

oh please, please..'... stop it, I am fasting..wink...wink.... for crying out loud and this ...talking about cakes and creams, and cheese are just too much......... I'll just leave your imagination run riot thinking of all these heavenly, sinfully rich and yummy "heaven on earth' creations /desserts. and I haven't even started talking about blueberry cheesetarts!or the chocolate mousse!

This plain bake cheesecake with garden theme with eleven ladybirds ( instead of the teddies ), plus I made three bees, three birds and three mushrooms for thethree birthday kiddos, oops sorry, they are kids no more, teenagers on the grass, with the "happy birthday wishes" or Izzat, Nurin and Nadira in the centre, just like Anin requested.
From the expression and the look on Anin's face who drove back from Putrajaya to berbuka puasa with her family here and to collect the cake yesterday, made me let out a sigh of relief. She said that she lilkes it and couldn't wait to dig in after berbuka.

Thank you Anin, for choosing Zue's Oven for your cousins' birthdays and wishing the birthday boy and girls, Happy 16th , 13th and 10th birthday!

my first Manchester United cuppies

Zico, Zidane, Paulo Rossi, Schilaci, and many more, I don't really know the current football players names cos I am not much of a football person. I am more familiar with those names for they were famous during my student days. Despite not liking football much, I ended up watching the World cup 1990 ( if I'm not mistaken ) and my favourite team was Italy.... simply because their players were....ehemmm....gorgeous!

I would watch snookers ( Jimmy White) and tennis more, and that time, the championship titles were held by Stephen Hendry and Stefi Graff respectively and for the men, I think it was Agassi or was it Goran . I used to remember all their names but not now tho', those days, I even got myself a pair of Nike snickers and Head tennis racket, yup, I played tennis or more like learning how to play tennis cos the racket itself was more or less the same size as me! I had to hold the racket with both hands for the swing. I like to play snookers though, despite the table being only a few feet lower than me. I thought it was just like playing carrom where you tried to put in the balls using the other ball but using long stick instead. It was much harder than carom of course but I still enjoyed it though . one game that I liked the most was bowling, we would go bowling almost every weeekend. These were some of the things that we did during our free time in between studying, watching movies, sight-seeing, strawberries picking, baking cheesecakes, sometimes, making trifles, many times, and so many other things too....memories, beautiful, sweet, memories......

back to this Manchester United cuppies. Earlier hubby dearest said that his friend wanted Transformers, as suggested by hubby dearest but when I was getting ready to prepare the deco, ( I had baked the carrot walnut cuppies ), I asked him again to double check since this was for a 12 year old and I thought transformers might not really be 'it'' for Aiman , I asked him if his friend's son likes football, so he said that his son likes Hijau Kuning team or the Red Devil, so Red Devil it is. I have never done it before, have always been waiting for the opportunity and it finally came knocking, only that it came knocking at about 9 pm! I started googling the logo on the net and sketched it in my sketch book and started making the logo using the fondant. the easiest for me would be to draw straight on the fondant itself and I think my drawing looks much better on the fondant than on the paper! The idea on making the red jersey with Aiman's name and age came the next morning and I managed to complete everything by 12 noon as promised, with the brownies being decorated while Mr Din was waiting for it outside. Well... he came half an hour early:-) I had baked the brownies the previous day and only left to be decorated.

Manchester United logo, drawn by me, first time ever, hope Muhammad Amirul Aiman is happy with his birthday cuppies. Happy 12th birthday, all the best in your coming UPSR, dear. thank you Din and missus for your continuous trust in me for your kids birthday cakes and cupcakes.

Happy 'Power Puff Girls' 5th birthday Ain Athirah

A father every child would love to have. Why? Every time when his children celebrate their birthdays, they would get not one but more than one cake and brownies with walnut is a must. Who am I referring to? None other than the "Brownies man" himself. I do hope that he wouldn't mind me calling him with this nickname:-)

normally, for the birthday cake itself I would make chocolate moist cake, but this time, he wanted to try something different, so instead of chocolate or vanilla, I suggested orange cake and he said that he'd love to try it, At the moment I only have one recipe using orange which was called 'Eggless Orange Cake' which I had tried before and I hope they would like it too..
glazed with white buttercream and hand drawn Power Puff Girls with colourful piping jelly with pink basketweave pattern on the sides with a touch of some small green blossoms.

PPG vanilla cupcakes

before..plain bake cheesecake.
after..with blueberries.....
before..brownies with walnut.
after.....still brownies with walnut but with ganache deco.Thank you to both Din and Mrs for your continuous support and wishing Ain Athirah a Happy 5th Birthday, semoga menjadi anak yang solehah.

Selamat hari Lahir Umi

A belated birthday cake for my Umi who celebrated her birthday on Dec 17. Since we were going back, I decided to bake one for her.

this is the chocolate fruit cake which I had accidentally poured a scoop of cocoa powder mixture into it, but the taste, was not affected at all.

I had finished packing, the BEN 10 was already been picked up by ana and we were ready to leave when I saw my fruit cake still bare! naked! no deco whatsoever on top.
know what I did? took the ready to roll fondant, makde the base and luckily there were a few roses left, nozzled out thepink buttercream where I wanted to place the roses and made some leaves with the green buttercream. all that was done in less than five minutes

wrapped with red ribbon with gold hearts, placed it in another box and put it in the car and off we went on our journey back to Kelate.
after a nonstop five hour driving along the east west highway, we reached my parents' house at 3.30 pm. The cake was safe and sound inside the box and I happily and proudly presented it to my Umi.
Selamat Hari Lahir Umi, love you heaps, more than words can express.

happy birthday Mama

It's been a long time since I last made buttercream roses. Since this request is from a man for his wife, I think it is appropriate to make roses for her, was rather a last minute request
sorry, couldn't make your two palm trees to represent the two number 3 ( for 33 ) as I only have less than five hours to bake, cool the vanilla butter cake, then to deco.

I received the call when I was driving at around 7.30 am, reached home just before 8 am, as someone is picking up her marble cheese brownies( MCB ) to be given to her relatives who were going back to KL today. this is her second order.she placed another order for MCB because she didn't get the chance to even taste the first MCB as the guests, families and friends finished them all during the raya visit and this second order is for her relatives.thank you Wahida for your support and thank you too for introducing Zue's Oven to your office mate( story on that later, I would call it 11 + 1 marble cheese brownies ).

Couldn't resist sweeping some of the dry leaves in my 'sekangkang kera" lawn.
received the e-mail confirming the order by Mr Shafiro who is the uncle to Amal Nabila who ordered "Happy B'day BABA" and edible image cuppies for raya recently, and by 9.30 am, the cake was already in the oven whilst the washing machine and the dryer were doing their job .

Found out that the missus's fav colour is green so , as you can see green grass with green rosettes and of course green leaves with two shades of green on a white glazed vanilla magnolia cake and the three red roses in the middle.
Finished deco at almost 1.30 pm ( phew! ), in between attending to my nephews and friend who came over during this period of crucial time. My nephew helped with brunch, ommelette, french toast and coleslaw . not helped actually cos he's the one doing them.....thanx Along for making them for us. I don't normally like coleslaw but I finished the one that he made for us...compliment to the little ( not so little ) Chef.
As fo my friend, who just singgah sekejap before leaving for Perlis for her meeting.thank you Azah for the kerepek pedas tu, and sorry tak leh sembang panjang . We'll catch up some other time kay.
Thank you Mr Shafiro ( sorry kalau silap nama ni ) for this order. It was a surprise for his wife....auwww......soooooo sweeet.....she's one lucky mama........happy birthday to the Missus. may you celebrate more birthdays together.

Hooi San is 11

She likes the "Tinkerlina" cake ( the lady in green ). So do I. Tinkerlina is sweet, poise and feminine. Her daughter is turning 11 on 25th August, so she decided on chocolate moist cake with Princess like character, not too heavy on the deco and no cream , if possible.

There are so many Princesses around, Princess Aurora ( Sleeping Beauty), Belle ( Beauty and the Beast), Snow white, Cinderella(my all time favourite movie) , Princess Jasmine, Ariel ( Little Mermaid ). The not so real princess but look every inch like a Princess, Barbie, I think it's every young girl's dream to own at least one Barbie doll, or then again, maybe not.

To all mothers, their daughters are their princesses. They are the apple of their eyes, they, or, we, as I am a mother too would dress them up ever since they were little in beautiful and cute clothings and dresses. when you go shoping for little girls' clothes, you would go crazy over the designs, ever so cute and lovely.

So which Princess should I make for her. Since I've been reading a lot of Tinkerbell's stories to my Batrisyia lately, and she , the former, not the latter, has many beautiful and dainty fairy friends at Pixie Hollow and I thot of Rosetta, the garden fairy of Pixie Hollow whose task is to paint flowers. Just to share with you some of Tinkerbell's friends names besides Rosetta:- Fawn, the liveliest one, Iridessa, the radiant one, Silvermist, a water fairy and Vidia, the fastest fairy.

It wasn't as easy as i thought it would be, to make that gorgeous curly locks, the ruffled dress and skirt, the daintiness, well, she didn't look exactly like Rosetta, I just borrowed her dress and her voluptuousness only I guess. her face..hmmm...that's one area that I really......really need to work on, among other things. I am considering of taking another class with a professional cake decorator. A few people have been asking me to arrange classes for them, so I guess I need to equip myself to better able to teach anybody properly. To me, the process of learning is never-ending

I just changed the characters a bit, instead of her other fairy friends I just created a bunny wabbit and a little teddy to be her friends and I created one mushroom or toadstool house with a door and two windows ( inspired by Debbie Brown )for them.

Batrisyia said, "mama, the house is too schmall( small ) for them"
So, mummy said, that's because the house is a bit far away from them, that's why it looks small. " ooohhhhh.."

Annie, the sweet and friendly lady, came over at around 4 pm to collect the cake. I really do hope that she and her daughter Hooi San would like the cake.

Here's Aunty, wishing Hooi San, happy 11th Birthday, may all your dreams come true. When Aunty was your age, we had to sit for our "Penilaian Darjah Lima" which is now called "UPSR" and to be taken when you are in your Standard Six.

To Annie, thank you so much for trusting me with your daughter's birthday cake. Really nice knowing you and your kids.

just saw an sms sent by Annie last night which says,

"Tq for d delicious n beautiful cake. We enjoyed it very much"

such a short and simple message but very meaningful to me. thank you Annie for the kind words.
